A NARROW ESCAPE.
WOMAN NEARLY DROWNED. GALLANT RESCUE BY YOUTHS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association ) DUNEDIN, Thursday. A young woman named Calder, a nurse, had a narrow escape from drowning while swimming off the St. CJair beach. When 100 yards out she was seen to throw her arms up, signalling for help. Richard Coxon swam out and got hold of the young woman, but could make no headway against the undertow. Ivan Turnbull swam to his assistance with a life-line against a strong current, and the three got ashore exhausted.
Miss Calder, on recovering, said she would have drowned hut for the youths’ promptness and courage.
