COMMERCE CHAMBER.

MEETING AT TE AWAMUTU

IMPORTANT MATTERS DISCUSSED.

At the-monthly meeting of the Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce the president, Mr J. Oliphant, presided over a good attendance of members. Appreciative reference was made to the address given by Captain W. Mackenzie at the luncheon earlier in the day, and a letter of thanks is to be sent him. The secretary of the Auckland Aero Club wrote, in reply to the Chamber’s protest, that apparently there had been some misunderstanding in the matter of the meagre report of their aeroplanes’ visit to Te Awamutu, but added that any report to be made would be made by his committee when the planes return to Auckland.

Visit by Minister.

The Minister for Justice, Hon- T. MWilford, in response to the Chamber s invitation to visit Te Awamutu for tho purpose of inspecting the area farmed bv the Mental Hospital and Borstal Institute, advised that he would be visiting the district as soon as possible after the session for this purpose. The secretary reported that as the Chamber had not been represented at the conference of the Associated Chambers in Auckland he : had written and wired to the Auckland secretary, Dr. Neale, who had arranged for the Chamber’s remit re power boards to be moved by the Auckland representatives.' The result had been that it had been strongly supported and carried unanimously. The chairman called attention to the remit dealing with bankruptcy and private assignments dealt, with at the recent conference, and pointed out that they had recommended the registration of private assignments. Mr Warburton strongly supported this last, clause, and pointed out it would be to fhe benefit of creditors very materially.

Railway Improvements.

Mr Warburton luoched on the famous 1925 allocation for railway improvements, and referred to the longpromised new railway station- The schedule referred to showed an allocation of £II,OOO for grade easements between Frankton and Te Kulti in j 930, £35,000 in 1931 and £35,000 in 1932.

He suggested that the Minister for Railways he written to on this matter, and this was agreed t,o.
