HAMILTON’S EASY WIN. MARGIN OF 186 OVER WAIPA. GOOD AVERAGE BATTING. Hamilton experienced little difficulty in disposing of Waipa in a representative cricket match at Seddon Park yesterday. The home side gained a win on the first innings, making a total of 272 against the visitors’ 86 — a margin of 186. While Waipa possesses some sound batsmen, the fact lhat the team is used to a concrete pitch made some difference to their playing capabilities. Rain threatened for most of the day but held off fortunately, although Ihe light was very pror during the closing stages of the game. The wicket was still on the soft side and the outfield could have been a little faster.

At the afternoon tea adjournment Mr A. J. Shepherd, captain of the visiting side, thanked the Association for arranging the match, and expressed regret that Waipa vvas not in a position to field a stronger team. Three cheers were then called for ihe Hamilton side.

In reply, Mr R. Johnston, jun chairman of the Management Commßice. referred to the good spirit produced by town and country matches and matches between the various subassociations. The affiliation with • e Waikato Association of these associations had been a long process, but h' felt it had been well worth while. However, it would not be a complete success until wickets had been standardised. When some teams played on grass wickets, some on clay, and some on concrete, matters were made difficult when it came to a representative match. Mr Johnston thanked Waipa for coming over for a game, and called for three cheers for the visitors, which were heartily given, Hamilton opened their innings with Senior and Hemus, and a fair total was compiled by lunch time. I. Johnston stayed at the crease for 81 before being caught by Winter off Shepherd. His score included one sixer and ten fours. Eight of the home team were caught out, but not before they had given the visiting fieldsmen a good deal of exercise. The Waipa bowling proved weak. Shepherd was the most impressive, accounting for six wickets for 63 runs. D. Hawke and B. Badeley both batted well. Timms sent up an easy catch for Winter. Hamilton were dismissed after compiling the useful total of 272. Howcroft and Beechey opened Waipa's scoring account but were soon disposed of. Shepherd, the visitors’ best bat, was dismissed for 14, his bails flying soon after I. Johnston handled the ball. Winter hit two boundaries to leg in succession and looked confident, but he was caught by Senior behind the wickets at four for 42. Philp adopted a slogging style and. experienced little trouble with the bowling'until he was caught in the slips by I. Johnston off Hemus. Hawke soon made his presence felt with the ball, disposing of Smart and Shea within a few minutes of each other. The innings closed at 5.25 p.m, with Waipa’s total standing at 86. Scores:—
