LONDON MARKETS. A STEADY DEMAND. WELLINGTON, Monday. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram dated October 19 from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London : Tallow. —The market continues quiet, with small demand at auction at lower prices. Present quotations are: Mutton, fine, 40s 6d to 41s per cwt.; fair to good, 37s 6d to 40s; dark to dull, 36s to 36s 6d. Beef, sweet and, or, mixed, 40s to 42® Gel; fair to good, 36s 6d to 395; dark to dull, 35s 6d to 365. Mixed, fair to good, 36s 6d to 395; dark to dull, 35s to 35s 6d. Gul, etc., 34s to 365. Wool.—Owing to encouraging reports from overseas markets regarding Merino wool, Bradford quotations for Merino tops have advanced. The position regarding crossbred is uncertain. Present quotations for lops are: 64’s warp, 2s Old to 2s 10d per lb; average, 2s 84d to 2s 9d; 565, 2s ljd to 2s 2d; 50’s, prepared, Is ild; 40's, prepared, Is Sd to Is 8;d. Hemp.—The Manila market was firmer early this week on account ot light receipts, but prices cased later. “J” grade closing values for OctoberDecember shipments were 1136 ss. Stocks in England at September 30 totalled 12,500 bales, against 14,000 bales for the same time last year. Sisal: The market is steady, but trade is slow. Sellers quote for fair average quality, No. 1, £39 10s to £3B, but buyers are 10s below these prices. New Zealand: There is a little more inquiry, but spinners’ ideas arc much below those of New Zealand shippers, and the market is very quiet. Nominal comparative values are: High points, £33 10s to £34; fair, £3O 10s to £3l; common, £29 to £29 ss; tow, second grade, £2l 10s; third grade, £l7; all for OctoberDeccmber shipments. Stocks m England at September 30 totalled 80 lons, against 65 tons for the same time last year. OHINEWAI STOCK SALE. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., report. At our Ohinewai stock sale yesterday we penned a full yarding of all classes of stock. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Hamilton, report: At Cambridge stock sale on Mondav we submitted a good yarding of* cattle and a small entry of pigs. Fat and forward cows sold under keen competition and yearling heifers met with a fair demand. Store pigs realised most satisfactory prices. We quote.
