ENTERTAINMENTS.

TALKIES IN HAMILTON. AT STRAND TO-NIGHT. To-night, at the Strand Theatre, will see the introduction of the talkies to Hamilton, and it is safe to predict a crowded house. The initial production will be the 100 per cent, talkie, “ The Home Towners,” claimed to be Warner Bros’ best sound film to date. It tells an intriguing story, containing all the elements of romance, sensation and humour, and the performance by an all-star cast is said to be perfect. Thus Hamilton will see its first talkie under the happiest auspices. Seats should be booked at once. Special arrangements have been made for country patrons, for whom seats will be reserved each evening.

After “The Home Towners ” has run its course for a week or so, “ The jazz Singer,’’ starring A 1 Jolson, will be shown to local picture-lovers. •• 'Hie Home Towners ’’ is a genial, heart-warming, chuckling play—recounting the adventures of two mid-dle-aged chums, the girl to whom one is engaged, and her family. Robert McWadc plays P. 11. Bancroft, the small-town pal who hears that his millionaire crony is engaged to marry a Big Town young woman. Bancroft at once assumes that she and her family are hoodwinking his friend, and comes post haste to Manhattan to set things right, instead, lie sets things decidedly wrong, and it is only after much uproarious manoeuvring that he straightens out the mix-up he himself has made. Robert Me Wade marvellously interprets Ihe same part he played in the original stage production.

THEATRE ROYAL. An entertaining programme will be screened at the Theatre Royal tonight. Despite the popularity of the talkies, there will probably be many people who will enjoy silent films.

Musical items will also be rendered. GLADYS DENZ’S RECITAL. For her recital on Tuesday, October 22, Miss Gladys Denz has arranged a very attractive programme of dancing, singing and elocution. Special features will be the appearance of a clever child soubrette and an exhibition of toe dancing. “The Coming of Day” will be a big spectacular production, in which characters ranging from Darkness to Dawn will be introduced with beautiful effect. "Grctchen and Hans and Their Dutch Family” will be another outstanding number. Miss Denz’ annual recital is always looked forward to, and this year it promises to be as popular as ever.
