CRIMINAL SESSIONS.
DUNEDIN CRIMES. DUNEDIN, Friday. The following prisoners were sentenced to-day:—Oliver John Keenan, breaking, entering and theft, two years’ Borstal; Stephen James Petrie, forgery, probation for two years. In refusing probation to Keenan Mr Justice Kennedy said the crimes were committed at night. Moreover, a few months before accused had pleaded guilty to theft, and in substance, if not actually, had been released on probation. He must vindicate and preserve the probation system by showing those who violated it that they could not enjoy leniency.
