general summary. SUBMARINE TELEPHONE. RUGBY, October 10. Following upon the rapid increase in telephone calls between Britain and the Continent the firm of Siemens Brothers of Woolwich, has received an important contract. This is to make and lay a new cable between England and Belgium. The estimated cost considerably exceeds £IOO,OOO. The cable, which is to be more than 75 miles long, will he a duplicate of the land and submarine line laid on the same route in 1926. The work will he begun almost at once. ANTARCTIC EXPLORATION. CAPETOWN, Oct. It. The 324-ton whaler William Scoresbv, owned bv the Governmenl of the Falkland Islands and flying its flag. left Simonstown last night for the South Shetlands and the Antarctic. Sir Hubert Wilkins will join the vessel at Deception Island, where he has two seaplanes. With the object of locating shoals of whales Sir Hubert will explore the Antarctic coast and lcok for possible whaling bases. The William Scoresby will be used for marking whales with darts and for soundings. STRESEMANN’S MEMORY. LONDON, Oct. 11. The Berlin correspondent of the Times states that in memory of the late Herr Stresemann the Berlin Municipal Council has decided to rename the famous thoroughfare, Koniggrat-zer-Strasse, the Stresemann-Strasse. In a number of provincial cities a similar decision has been made. DISORDERS IN PALESTINE. LONDON, Oct. 10. The members of the Commission of Inquiry into the recent disorders in Palestine are expected to leave England within the next few days. Since the appointment of the commission, magistrates and local officials in Palestine have collected written evidence which will be placed before the commissioners. Oral evidence also will be taken from representatives of the Arabs and the Jews. _
