"Gipsy Love,” which is in rehearsal hy tlie Hamilton Operatic Society, tells the romantic story of the love of a rich girl for a gipsy violinist, and drama and comedy arc intermingled with great effect. The musical score contains many beautiful melodies, solo and concerted, and as the society this year is strong musically these receive fine treatment. Principals, chorus and ballet are
working enthusiastically, and as a result “Gipsy Love” should be one of the most colourful -productions in the society’s history. Trczise will appear as Lord Arthur Dilling. A slight loss was made on “The Pirates of Penzance” last week by the Wanganui Operatic Society. “We have hardly paid expenses,” said Mr M. Cohen, president, at the farewell performance, "but we don’t mind, because it is good to suffer in a good cause. We are not far behind, and we rely on you, dear and fickle public.” At tile conclusion of the five nights’ season of “The Pirates of Penzance” by the Wanganui Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society a parly was held. Mr Louis Cohen, president, on behalf of tlie society, asked Mr llarison Cook, the producer, to accept a small memento of the occasion. To Mr Hubert Carter, who so ably filled Ihe role of Frederick, was given a I'rctirli {ravelling clock, and to Mr Gordon Mcßelh, who has condueled for the society for many years, two presentations were made —one from Ihe society and one from tlie performers.
