SUBSIDY TO GOOD DRAMA.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Why .shouldn’t the Government subsidise a company that gives the people decent drama? Most civilised countries nowadays have a national theatre. It is by education of the popular taste rather than by censorship that the standard of our piclure shows and dramas will be improved, and it seems a sensible educational policy to help people to put on decent show's of all hinds. If all the money that is wasted in forcing children to waste their time on learning "spellings" were spent on encouraging good drama, we would have something like an educated community.— I am, etc., BLOGGS.
