TROTTING.

NEW SEASON’S DOINGS. WAIKATO CLUB’S MEETING. (By “Padlock.”) Dates of Meetings. October 12 —Waikato. October 19— New Brighton. October 26, 28—Greymouth. October 2G, 28—Auckland. October 28—Oam-aru. November 2 —Wellington. November 12, 14, 15—N.Z. Metropolitan. November 20, 23 —Otahuhu. November 28, 30—Forbury. WAIKATO CLUB’S MEETING.

For its Spring meeting, which will be held at its course at Claudel-ands on Saturday, the Waikato Club lias 'been favoured with an excellent list of acceptances. Tlie very ready response must be taken as a tribute to Hie work of tlie club's handicapper (Mr. C. E. Goosman) to which there promises to be further testimony in the quality of the racing on the day. With a dozen standing their ground in the Mark Memorial Handicap, the leading item of the programme lias filled well. it is an event in which the public will give attention to the majority of the runners. With sixteen in the Stewards’ Handicap, the sprint race of the card has also claimed marked attention and in this also the handicapper has done his work so well that the -public’s task is not an easy one. With ten remaining in the Hamilton Handicap there will be plenty to interest in the leading event l'or Hie square-gaited performers at the. coming meeting, while from the racing aspect here -again there promises to lie plenty to enthuse over. The supporting races have all filled excellently and Ute coming fixture only requires to be favoured with fine weather to mark it down as one of the most successful held at tlie headquarters of the light harness sport in the South Auckland province.

A Back Marker. It is pleasing to find Linnet the Great, among the acceptors for the Introductory event at Claudelands on

Saturday. Although she is -back -on 156 yards 'this will not discourage keen students from giving her support if site is produced in sufficiently forward condition. Linnet tlie Great, who has not been long in this country from England, is having her preparation attended to at Epsom. This trotter was a good winner of races round about London and is -spoken of as a nice mover on the training tracks.

Pair of Newcomers. Kewpie’s Guy, who appears as an acceptor for the Frankton Handicap, is a filly by Blue Mountain King from Kewpie, the laLter of whom was a very speedy mare during iter racing career. Another newcomer in the same event is Gold Seam, who is toy Gold BelJ from a mare toy Dan Patch. In Iter preliminary work nut at Auckland headquarters Gold Seam has made a very favourable impression, but lack of experience in public may toe against her on Hie coming occasion.

Double Engagement. Rock-burn, who is an acceptor in the Mark .Memorial and the Stewards’ Handicap at the local fixture, has not done anything in the way of prominence since lie won the Thames Cup last season. The Rock Huon —Rangi gelding, who is now in S. August's charge, has been in action on the tracks at Otahuhu of recent times. Although he is coming to hand favourably the impression of watchers is that Rockburn will not be seen at his best until he has had some racing.

Pair of Square Gaiters. Gold Sovereign and Peterson, square gaited performers whom T. Roc is bringing to the Waikato meeting, were seen in action at Otahuhu at the week-end. They arc reported to have given sound displays over the distance of the leading event for trotters on the coming card. Without regisiering anything outstanding in (he matter of time their work-outs were iu every way satisfactory and they can ho relied upon to strip in forward condition for their coming engagements.

Reliable Last Season. Tony Victor proved a very reliable performer during the past season, when lie gave his followers some good returns for their investments. The Antonio gelding is in the MarkMemorial and the Stewards’ Handicap at Claudclands on Saturday and it is -likely that he will be -a starter in ■both. Tony Motor has shown winning form on Hie course, and a repeat order is not unexpected. He has been pacing smartly in his work-outs at Otahuhu.

A Capable Sort. Enawah will be the representative of R. A. McMillan’s stable in the Claudclands Handicap on Saturday. 'l’he Pelerwal) —Ena Bell chestnut was a winner at her latest appearance, which was in the Murchison Handicap at the Earthquake Belief meeting. There is no doubt about Enawah being a capable sort when she is keyed up to the needs of racing. In this latter respect everything promises to be in order for Saturday.

Goldman’s Next Start. Goldman is to make his next appearance in the Mark Memorial Handicap. The Gold Bell gelding is a consistent performer and he will como in for some favour in the leading event at Claudclands on Saturday. If the chestnut is handy when the real job is ahead lie can he looked to to make his presence felt. Doing Her Work Well. Polly’s Picture was displaying some favourable form towards the end of last, season. The Prince Child marc has been a regular worker at northern headquarters -of recent weeks and will line up in good order for the events she will contest on Saturday. She figures on 12yds in the Claudclands Handicap and on a similar mark in the Visitors’ Handicap. Will Find Favour. Mountain Dell promises to be among the well -supported candidates in the •leading event at Hie Waikato Club’s Spring meeting. This improving -pacer

won the Seddonville Handicap at Alexandra Park at the end of August when she put up an impressive showing. The daughter of Blue Mountain King and Whispering Dell should ibe one to set a merry pace off the limit on Saturday. She has been getting •through plenty of solid work at Alexandra Park and so far as condition is concerned will toe well equipped for the coming fray.

On Difficult Mark. Carmel is a very solid performer •but this member of J. Shaw’s team will require to produce something good to succeed off 60yds in the Mark Memorial Handicap at the Waikato meeting. The chestnut daughter of Our Thorpe and The Abbess already has successful form to her credit this season as she led the field home in ■the Westport Handicap, the leading event at the Earthquake Relief Fund meeting at Alexandra Park on August 31.

A Consistent Performer. When it comes to selections in the Hamilton Handicap, the leading item for the square-gaiters at Claudclands on Saturday, one who is likely to have her prospects viewed with a degree of favour is Etta Cole. The daughter of Peterwah, who'will be driven toy her trainer, F. Gilchrist, showed capable form last season. It has invariably been the case that the chestnut goes a very reliable race for her mentor. As she has been working regularly on the tracks at Epsom Etta Cole will parade in good order for the task set her on Saturday.

CARMEL SCRATCHED. Carmel was scratched at 9.40 a.m. to-day for the Mark Memorial Handicap at the Waikato Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday.
