OVERTURE TO ASSEMBLY,
WOVE IN WAIKATO PRESBYTERY
NOTICE OF MOTION GIVEN. At the last meeting of the Waikato Presbytery, held at (Hamilton, Hev. James" Milne (Thames) gave notice of the following overture to be considered at next meeting in Novem])gp ; . Whereas the efficiency . of 'the Churches in our Dominion is greatly hindered by overlapping agencies m most towns and many country districts and whereas not a few remote areas arc apt to be left without adequate Church ordinances, which could be well supplied were the Church forces through closer co-operative effort better , organised; it is hereby overtimed to the General Assembly, in Dunedin in (March next, by the Waikato Presbytery, that the Assembly express the desire for closer association in their common ministry between the other Christian Churches in New Zealand and our own Presbyterian Church; that unto this end a Church Unity Committee be appointed to confer with like other committees which may be appointed by the other Churches; further, with a view to the economising in men and means for the better extension of our Lords Kingdom at Home and abroad, at such conferences the possibilities of incorporate union as between certain of the Churches represented, or Federation as between a wider section, or merely organised co-operation in working agency by all responding to the Assembly’s appeal, be considered; and that the Assembly encourage Jhe formation of representative Church groups throughout its parishes, after the spirit of the recent Lausanne Conference.
