A METEORITE.

ROARING WHITE FLAME. FALLS INTO THE SEA. LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER’S FRIGHT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Burning with a terrific white flame, and roaring with a noise that shook the tower, a meteorite passed within a stone’s throw of the Godley Head Lighthouse at 6.40 o’clock last evening. The lighthouse-keeper, Mr T. B. Smith, and his family received a severe fright. Mr Smith told a reporter that the roar of the approaching meteorite attracted his attention. The meteorite came from the south and was going alrpost due north, descending at a steep angle. It seemed to stop flaming before it reached the sea.
