LAWN TENNIS.

RUKUHIA CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. At the seventh annual meeting of the Rukuhia Tennis Club there was a good attendance. The president, Mr H. C. Wallace, occupied the chair. Subscriptions were fixed as usual — men £l, ladies 10s, juniors half fee, children attending Rukuhia and Tamahere schools one quarter fee. Half of the croquet players’ subs is to be set aside for the purchase of croquet equipment The club is still using the five private courts near the Narrows. Motor rolling and mowing is keeping the grass courts in excellent order. The concrete court enabled a good deal of winter practice to he indulged in. The club for the first time holds the Waipa Junior Shield, and members are keenly looking forward to this season s matches. c The following officials were elected: Patron, Mr J. A. Young, M.P.; president, Mrs T. J. Heaiy; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Boyd and H. C. Wallace; captain, Mr J. A. Raynes; selectors, Messrs E. R. Matuschka, J. Boyd and II C. Wallace; committee, Mesdames McAiiliffe, Matuschka, Carryer and Roebuck, Miss K. McAuliiffe, Messrs Carryer, Matuschka and S. Roberts; secretary, Mr J. J. Raynes. The official opening will take place on Saturday, 19th inst., and will be followed by a dance in the evening.

THE ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting at Ngahinapouri, in the absence of the president through illness Mr Richardson presided over a full attendance of delegates. The report showed that the season had been a successful one and that the finances wore in a sound condition, as after meeting a loss of some £;> oil the tournament there remained a credit balance of £ll. Tlie following officers were elected: President, Mr S. Reid; vice-presidents, Messrs S. C. Macky, J. Ryburn, 11. R. Ogg, R. Boyd, .1. J. Raynes, S. Wcatiierley, A. Livingstone, D. B. Livingstone and H. Haddock; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Sutton; assistant secretary, Mr W. Reid; auditor, Mr A. Livingstone; delegate to Waikato Association, Mr 11. D. Matthews. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Messrs Sutton and W. Reid for their services during the year. Increase in Levy. Messrs Fabling and Rlackwood attended on behalf of the Waikato Association and outlined and explained the. reasons for the proposed increase in the levy. After a full discussion it was resolved that the Waipa West Subassociation is agreeable to paying the increased levy (9d per member). The club affiliation fee to the subassociation was fixed for the year at Is per member. It was resolved that the clubs be not grouped In zones this season, a motion that the clubs be grouped in zones as for last season being defeated. Delegates generally agreed that it would be preferable to revert to the plan of playing all the clubs in one competition.

Match Rules. The secretary submitted a set of proposed match rules, and these were discussed, amended and adopted. 1L was decided that matches commence on October 26, matches to cease for Christmas break after December 7, and to be resumed on January 25. Entries for senior and junior matches are to close with the secretary on October 16. The secretary was appointed to drawup list of fixtures. Ladles to Play.

In reply to a query from a club, it was decided that in junior matches ladies may play in men's places if sufficient men are not available, provided Hie opposing team does not object. Owing to the difficulty of providing courts it was decided that entries he limited to one senior and one junior team from each club. . As the list of fixtures will be a long one, the question of holding a tournament was left in abeyance. Messrs S. Macky, W. Reid and W. Smillie were appointed a committee to arrange senior and junior tournaments should the clubs later on decide to hold them. A vote of thanks to the chairman closed the meeting.

SUNDAY PLAY AT TE AROHA. POSTAL BALLOT TO BE TAKEN. The Te Aroha Tennis Club is divided on the subject of tennis being played on Sunday. It has been decided by the committee to arrange a postal ballot.

PIAKO ASSOCIATION. DRAW FOR FIRST ROUND. The Piako Association’s draw for the first round of the inter-club competition is as follows: — October 19.—Tatuanui v. Te Puninga, at Tatuanui; Waitoa v. Ngarua, at Waitoa; Springdale a bye. October 26.—Waitoa v. Te Puninga, at Te Puninga; Tatuanui v. Springdale, at Tatuanui; Ngarua a bye. November 2. —Ngarua v. Springdale, at Ngarua; Waitoa v, Tatuanui, at Waitoa; Te Puninga a bye. November 9.—Springdale v. Waitoa, at, Springdale; Te Puninga v. Ngarua, at Te Puninga: Tatuanui a bye. November 16. —Ngarua v. Tatuanui. at Ngarua; Te Puninga v. Springdale, at Springdale; Waito'a a bye.
