LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

AUSTRALIANS IN BRITAIN. FIRST TEST MATCH. TOURISTS’ GREAT WIN. (Bv Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) LONDON. Oct. 5. In the first League football test match Australia defeated England by 31 points to 8, after leading at halftime by 18 points to 2. Parkin was unable to play for England. The home team started with a strong attack, but the visitors got going at a terrific pace. Busch j Treweeke, and Gorman played a great game, and carried all before them. There were 20.000 spectators. The game took place at Graven Park. Hull. The decisiveness of tile score did not exaggerate the Australians’ superiority, which extended to every phase of the game. England was beaten both in speed and "general understanding of the game, and paid the penalty for weakness in defence. The only department in which England could claim any advantage was in the scrum, where they gained possession nine times out of ten, but this advantage was nullified by hesitancy and faulty passing. In fact, the English backs were made to appear very moderate. The absence of Parkin, Brough and Ellaby, through injuries, weakened the team, but it did not excuse the feeble play. Treweeke, Shankland (2), Prigg, Bishop, Spencer, and Weisscll scored tries. Weissel converted five. For England, Middleton and Freetham scored tries. Thompson kicked a penalty goal.
