RIDICULOUS CONTENTION.

CLAY-WORKERS’ AWARD. CLAIM FOR PAST OVERTIME. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Monday. Mr Wright, secretary of the Auckland Employers’ Association, ridicules the statement by Mr Purtill that on Mr Justice Blair's award the brick, tile and pottery workers will be able to claim £SOOO to cover overtime for the past five years. Mr Wright says Mr Purtill ignores the fact that the wages previously paid were in accordance with the award of the Arbitration Court. It was illogical to suppose that an opinion expressed by a temporary Judge of the Court in making a new award will nullify previous awards made by five successive judges of the Court. This is far from being the case, as an award can he upset only by a judgment of the Court of Appeal on the question of jurisdiction.
