COMEDY OF TWINS
STORY OF A BLACK EYE. GIRL CHANGES HER FACE. Until a few weeks ago it was Impossible for the parents of Harblean and Ivadell Kramer, a pair of pretty cabaret dancers well known in London, to tell “t'other from which.” In all the 23 years of their lives these twin sisters have been exact counterparts of each other, even to the extent of inflections of the voice and those intimate little personal mannerisms that usually distinguish tiie average twins). And then 'suddenly it became possible for everyone to tell them apart. For Ivadell left the theatre a few evenings ago with a black eye! It was her sister Harblean who had wrought this sudden and dramatic change — with her own dainty little fist. It was their first serious quarrel, and the cause was, as might be expected, a man.
Ivadell was awaiting her sister in her dressing room when in walked .Billy Carr, who, when he is not busy with his saxaphone in tiie jazz band world, is Ilarblean’s sweetheart.
Mistaking Ivadell for Harblean Carr threw his arms about tier and kissed her, and tiie more Ivadell struggled and attempted to explain, (he more tiis ardour increased. It was only when the door opened and an enraged Harblean confronted them that lie realised that there might be something wrong. There soon was. Enraged at what she considered to be her betrayal by her sister, Harblean✓ landed out with her fist and duly decorated her sister’s eye. Explanations followed later. There were apologies all round, but Harblean was determined that sucli a thing should never happen again. A London paper says, "Promptly the next morning she visited a plastic surgeon and arranged for her nose to be tilted and her dimple removed! From sketches presented to her she selected a definitely retrousse nose, and the doctor quickly got busy. “For a week the twins looked as though they had survived a bad car smash, but now Ivadell’s eye is back in shape, and Harblean’s nose is out of plaster. “There is no doubt at all as to who is who, and no one is better pleased than Billy Carr. For stage purposes the twin resemblance is cleverly maintained by the use of cosmetics. So everybody is happyT
