TE AROHA JOCKEY CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. A SATISFACTORY YEAR. Mi* R. t. Somers, president, presided at the annual meeting of members on Friday evening. There was an attendance of thirty. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman referred to the satisfactory state of the club’s finances, the profit being £327 19s 2d. The club was one of the most prosperous of country institutions in the North Island, and results achieved spoke well for its popularity. A contract for £1995 for forming the new course had been let and the work was well in hand. The Auckland Country Clubs’ , Breeding Association was being wound up. LP to the present the club had received 17s 3d in the £ and hoped to receive full amount Invested. He referred to the great success of'the Day Comet representatives of the recent National meeting. The grazing operations at the course had resulted in a substantial profit, for which the members of the course committee were to be thanked. There had been no opposition to ille election of the retiring officials, which showed the confidence of members in the club’s working. Next year would mark the 21st year of his connection with the club, and he hoped to again welcome those present on the occasion of the mext annual meeting. lie thanked the officers generally for the way they had worked during the year. Mr J. Pohle'n, in seconding the adoption of the report and balancesheet, said the result of the year was very good and better than most could have expected, especially when so many clubs are having a difficult time and reducing prize money. Alteration In Rules. The treasurer, Mr H. E. Willcox, particularised several items in the balance-sheet. According to notice of motion he moved that the rules be altered in regard to elections of officers, to the effect that the secretary notify members 21 days previous to an annual meeting of the closing of nominations, and that the same be closed at 8.30 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. as previously. This was seconded by Mr J. P. Somers and carried. Mr John Mackay proposed as a recommendation to the committee that a meeting of stewards he called immediately after each race meeting, when suggestions could be noted.— Seconded by Mr D. Borric, and carried. Mr J. Pohlen thought it would be advisable to start the 1% mile cup race higher up the straight to prevent undue crowding at the first corner. Election of Officers. The officers elected were as follows: Patron, Hon. J. G. Coates, M.P.; President, R. L. Somers; vice-presi-dents, P. Baine, R. Barke, J. B. Johnson; committee, E. J. Alslabie, G. Goodfellow, T. A. Hines, F. I. Hunt, G. McGlashan, F. T. Rowe and J. P. Somers. Clashing of Dates. The President referred to the club and the Waikato Trotting Club holding their meetings on the first Saturday in March. He said this was unfortunate indeed. The Trotting Club had two permits and intended to use one for March and one for October. He considered it would be in the interests of that club to hold its two days in October. Mr Willcox considered that in the case of division races two dividends should be piad for each. Mr W. Dunn was in accord with this and a motion was tabled with the . idea of it being suggested to the Racing Conference. The treasurer was in favour of the press being admitted to inquries and protests on race days, as this would tend to inspire more confidence on the part of the public. Several members supported this, and the conference will be notified in due course. A hearty vote of appreciation to the president and officials, proposed by Mr Dunn, was enthusiastically passed.
