FLAX-GRADING RETURNS
REDUCTION DURING AUGUST. A much-reduced amount of flax and hemp was received into stores in Auckland during August, compared with August, 1928, and also with last July; The new season has hardly commenced and little work is being done in the mills. The higher qualities of hemp were fairly well represented. The figures for the month are as follows, the returns for August, 1928, being given in parentheses: — Hemp.—Fine, 1 bale (- —) ; good, fair, 142 (117) ; high, fair, 124 (343) ; fair, 131 1291), common, 149 (83); rejected, 28 (24); total, 575 (858). Tow. —No. 1, 26 (59); No. 2, 78 (125); No. 3, 47 (72); condemned, 13 (4); total, 164 (260). No bales of stripper slips passed through the stores in the month of August In either 1928 or 1929.
