VERDICT OF GUILTY.

TOOK NEIGHBOUR’S SHEEP. TE KUITI FARMER CHARGED. RECOMMENDATION TO MERCY. After a hearing extending over 2i days, Herbert Henry Ellis, 28, married, of Oparuru, near Te Kuiti, was found guilty by a jury at Hamilton, last night, of stealing 58 ewes, the property of Mr W. Gadsby. The Judge summed up strongly against prisoner. The jury' added to their verdict a recommendation lo mercy in view of the fact that the sheep strayed on io ids property, and that he did not actually go out with the deliberate intention to steal them. His Honour postponed sentence. He said he had noted the jury’s recommendation.
