MR. SAMUEL AROUSED.
PRIVILEGE RAISED. AN INCIDENT IN THE. LOBBY. I/ENTILATED IN THE CHAMBER. (Times Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The question of privilege was raised In the House by A. M. Samuel (Thames) this morning. Mr Samuel complained that last night In the lobby, In response to a jocular remark the Minister of Education (Hon H. Atmore), had retorted that he would tell the people something about him (Mr Samuel) In Egypt. Mr Samuel said he regarded that as a reflection on his military career and a slander, and he asked for the fullest Inquiry. The House proceeded to discuss the point. Mr Atmore said he was surprised and amused. He had said to the member, “Hullo Samuel!” Mr Samuel had replied: “Don’t be too hard on me when you reply.” He (Mr Atmore) had chafflngly replied: “I will tell you something about Egypt.” Why should Mr Samuel, he asked, assume that “something about Egypt” was . discreditable? A rambling discussion ensued, the upshot being Its adjournment until Tuesday to enable the members concerned to get together on the matter.
