Percy Splttlehouse, has been re- » manded on a charge of manslaughter arising out of the Newtown tragedy ' when a lorry driven by Splttlehouse got out of control and mounted a footpath and killed a man named C Michael Scully and a boy named C Robert Haddon. V _ _ „ At Newtown (Sydney) on Sunday, v August 11, a motor-lorry, travelling b at a high speed in King Street, got out », of hand, mounted a footpath, and killed a boy and an old man, and injured a little girl. The lorry smashed ■’ the plate-glass windows in several small shops. At the end of 40yds its 0 destructive career was stopped against v a news-agent’s window. The driver and two men who were with him were seriously injured. The tragedy \ was enacted within a few moments. The people in the. street had hardly ’ grasped what was happening. The ’ police seized some beer bottles found in the lorry. Several broken bottles V were scattered on the pavement.
