HOCKEY.

TEST TEAMS ENTERTAINED. AUSTRALIANS LEAVE TO-MORROW AUCKLAND, Monday. Members of the Australian and New Zealand hockey teams, referees and several visitors prominent in the hockey world were entertained by the Auckland Hockey Association at a complimentary dinner on Saturday evening. The visitors were welcomed by Mr L. C. Kent, president of the Auckland Hockey Association, who presided. The Manning Memorial Cup, which was successfully defended by New Zealand in Saturday’s lest 'match at Eden Park, was handed to Mr Kent by Mr R. J. Thomson, of Wanganui, manager of Ihe New Zealand team.

“The host learn Ilia!, ever left Australia in the interests of hockey,” said Mr Thomson of the visitors. He said they had been equally successful from Iho playing- and from the social standpoints. Commenting on the lest. Mr E. McLeod, captain of the New Zealand team, said he thought the difference between the teams on the day was not as much as two goals suggested.

Responding, Mr W. Rothwell, manager of the Australian team, said their one regret here was that it had not been possible to arrange a match with Auckland Province. They were disappointed with the result, but freely admitted that the better team won. There was every reason to believe that a New Zealand team would visit Australia in 1931. He was sure an invitation would be extended and he hoped that those who had represented New Zealand that day would do so again. The learns were later entertained by the association at St. James’ Theatre. The visitors will return to Sydney by the Makura to-morrow.
