HOSPITAL ARCHITECT.
(To the Editor.) Sir,— According to your report of Us meeting yesterday the Hospital Board has a false Impression in respcet to the Royal Institute of British Architects, which body is no more the parent of the New Zealand Institute of Architects than any other allied Institute. It made things easy for voung architects from overseas who went to the war to return to their own countries with the “magic" letters "A.R.1.8.A.” after their names as a reward for their patriotic services and, Incidentally, to augment its own income. The N.Z.I.A. is quite an >n dependent body under its own Act ot Parliament, but extends to members of all allied institutes, including the R.1.8.A., the privilege of membership without undergoing the ordeal of further examination. In the present instance I contend that that the Hospital Board has not played the “straight game” with architects generally whether registered or unregistered who were' applicants for the position of hospital architect and by its action has inspired, the public with dlstrus as to its sincerity. For the board now to try and recover that lost confidence by assuming the comic role of “standing on its dignity”(!) is so ludicrous that it will probably attain its.quantum meruit in the ironic cachinnatidn of the public at large, and will doubtless be remembered by the ratepayers when some of the useless and extravagant proposals now in contemplation are duly brought down.—l am, etc J . JOHN \V. WARREN. Hamilton, August 8. (This correspondence is now closed. —Ed. W.T.)
