At Forest Hills in the Wightman Cup Miss Helen Wills defeated Mrs Watson, C—l, G —4. The matcli was more closely contested titan the score indicated, many games going to deuce anti were hard fought throughout. Miss Watson was within a point of deuoing the second set. Miss Helen Jacobs defeated Miss Betty Nuttall, 7—3, B—6, in a bitterly hard fought match, in which each, •with trenchant service and vigorous ■men's style of stroking, contested each point. Mosdames Watson and Mitchell defeated Misses Wills and Cross, 6 —4, G—l. The English women’s superiority was so marked that it was literally a runaway victory for them. Miss Wilis In the middle of the court or at the net fumbled wretchedly, while Mrs Mitchell stepping into rallies repeatedly gained innumerable points only a few feet from the net.

Doeg beat Mangin, B—lo, 4—6, 6—3, 6—3, \7— s, and will enter the final.
