CONNORS DEFEATS GRIFFITHS. REFEREE STOPS THE FIGHT. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, June 19. At the Sydney Stadium this evening Ern : Connors, Bst 111 b, beat. Tommy Griffiths, Bst i 1 lb. The referee stopped the contest in the eighth round. Connors led throughout,' punishing Griffiths severely, lie sent him down several times with heavy lefts and rights to the jaw. Griffiths was unable to land convincing blows, and was beaten at lafighting. Eventually Griffiths was so badly punished that the referee stopped the fight, and declared Connor# the winner. BANTAM-WEIGHT TITLE. WON BY A NEGRO. • NEW YORK, June 18. Alphonso Brown (1181 b), a negro boxer, earned the State Athletic Commission's title of world’s defending bantam-weight champion by decisively defeating Vidal Gregoria (1171 b) in a 15-rounds bout. Brown led all the way. He repeatedly sent his opponent to the floor and outboxed him throughout. Cook has been matched for a tenround bout at Philadelphia on July 1 with Jimmy Byrne, a Boston heavyweight. ~
