NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW.
HAMILTON JUDGE’S COMMENT. PALMERSTON N., Thursday. Interest in the National Dairy Show, which opened on Tuesday, is well maintained. Gate takings for the first day showed an increase of 12s 6d over the opening day of the exhibition last year. Comparative figures ars as follows:—l927, £SB 2s; 1928, £7l 9s; 1929, £72 Is 6d. Entries in all classes of the mangold sections were particularly good, and the exhibits were large and ol' good quality, stated the judge (Mr J. M. Baxter, of Hamilton). The swedes had been very well grown and the quality was good. It was very hard to get clear swedes, but the exhibitors had been successful in that respect. Although the entries were small in number, both red and white carrots were of a very good quality. Soft turnips were a Dice lot, but the season; was a little too far advanced,- and some! were slightly old. The chou' moellier was'also very good, .except from the point of view of entries. In the heavyweight pumpkin. sections the exhibits were of a particularly large size. Summing up, Mr Baxter considered that all the exhibits in his sections were very creditable, but there still was a slight mixing of varieties, although not nearly so prevalent as had been the case last yean
