FAREWELL AFTERNOON.
PARTY AT PERIA. On Saturday afternoon the Mali School, Peria, was the scene of a very pleasant social function, w’hen tho residents of the district met to bid farewell to Mrs W. Blennerhassett, senr., and her son. The schoolroom was tastefully arranged with rugs, easy chairs, divans, and small tables, the latter decorated each with a vase of artistically arranged roses, Iceland poppies ,or begonias. About forty guests were present at the afternoon tea provided by the ladies, during which some gramophone selections were played. The chairman, Mr Harry Rollett, in an appropriate speech, referred to the regret with which they said “goodbye” to Mrs Blennerhassett and her son. Mrs Blennerhassett was an indefatigable worker for the Bed Cross, and it was certainly to a great extent owing to her efforts that Peria was able to give_such creditable financial aid to that organisation. He wished them God-speed and success in the new district to which they were going, and before concluding he asked Mrs Blennerhassett on behalf of tho residents to acept a handsome handbag, and Mr B. Blennerhassett to accept a gold-mounted fountain-pen. The latter was also asked to accept a handsome pipe on behalf of his uncle, Mr A. Blennerhassett, who was unable through illness to attend. Mr C. G. Payze and Mr R. S. Kirkpatrick also spoke of the high esteem in which the family was held, referring to the many neighbourly actions of Mrs .Blennerhassett and her late husband during their long residence in the district.
On behalf of the Church, the Rev. Turner spoke of the regret that body would feel at the departure of Mrs Blennerhassett and referred to her well-known hospitality. In a neat little speech Mr E. Blennerhassett thanked those present on his mother’s and his own behalf for their good wishes and handsome presents, at the conclusion of which “For They are Jolly Good Fellows” was heartily rendered. Among those present were: Mrs Blennerhassett, senr., smart frock of black silk bengalene and pretty black hat; Mrs Bowler, fawn suit and fur, felt hat to tone; Mrs T. Blennerhassett, blue and fawn jumper suit, fawn hat; Mrs H. Rollett, navy repp coat frock, black hat; Mrs C. Payze, smoke blue costume and fur, hat to tone; Mrs Kirkpatrick, golden brown Jumper suit, brown hat; Mrs CrowTher, mushroom face cloth coat, smart hat to tone; Mrs Duxfleld, napy repp frook, Oriental trimmings, black hat; Mrs Turner, cinnamon frock, trimmed Oriental silk, fur, and hat to match; Mrs Wright, fawn repp frock and fur, fawn and brown hat; Mrs De Renzy, brown velour coat, felt hat to match; Mrs Hinsdale (Tauranga), sage green coat frock and hat; Mrs Crabb, furtrimmed navy velour coat, black hat; Mrs N. Banks, browm and fawn checked jumper suit, hat to tone; Mrs Signal, navy and fawn coat frock, black hat; Misses Frost, dredanought grey tweed costume, fur, and hat to match; F. Duxfleld, green jumper suit trimmed silk, hat to tone; Rollett, fawn
