RAID ON A HOUSE.
ARREST OF MAN AND WIFE. ALLEGED COINING DEN. Arrested during a night raid by the police on an alleged coining den, a young married eouplc were brought before the Liverpool Stipendiary Magistrate on charges of making counterfeit coins, and being In possession of materials for their manufacture. The husband, Thomas Dickenson, 30, labourer, of Lionel Street, Liverpool, was apparently suffering from severe pains in his, head, which .he rocked between his his hands throughout the proceedings. His bobbedhaired wife, Sarah Dickenson, 23, who accompanied him in the dock, burst * into tears when she was refused bail. Mr A. Priestly, prosecuting, explained that .when the police officers 1 made the raid they discovered in a room on the second floor of the house the couple standing by a table. On It lay a mould for making counterfeit coins, pliers and a knife. A pan containing metal was on the lire,, and the woman had a Polishing Rag In Her Hands. The place was searched, and a large number of counterfeit coins found concealed dn the hem of the window curtains. A mould was discovered under one of the iloor boards. Sarah Dickenson, wdien charged, declared: ‘‘l cannot plead guilty to making them. 1 was letting him make them In Llic room." She then remarked to her husband: "Don’t give anyone away.” Sergeant Purvis, who preferred a charge of assault against the husband, stated that Dickenson asked permission to wash Ills hands. "I stood at the door watching him,” continued the officer. “He soaked his hands and arms right up to the shoulders, and then suddenly swung round and made a dash at me. He struck me and tried to pull the door open. We rolled over 'together, and I was compelled to hit him with my baton. He then exclaimrd ‘MI right, officer, 1 am out.’” Sergeant Purvis added: “I do not think he meant to assault me seriously. It was an attempt to escape." Accused were remanded in custody.
