RACING AT WANGANUI.

THE WINTER MEETING. PAITONU'S CONNOLLY HANDICAP. THE BOROUGH TO KEDDAR. (By Telegraph—press Association.) WANGANUI, Thursday. The .following were the concluding results;— CONNOLLY HANDICAP. Won by two lengths, a length between second and third. Time, 2.10. BOROUGH HANDICAP. Time, 1.15 2-5. fi’he totalisalor bandied £20,778 10s against £22,303 10s on the corresponding day last year. Two Jockeys Injured. In the Hack Steeples S. Anderson, rider of Vindication and A. Stratton, rider of Scrap Iron, sustained broken collar-bones when their mounts fell.

COMMENTS ON THE RUNNING. The Wanganui Steeplechase. In the Wanganui Steeplechase Roman Abbey was a slightly better favourite that Matu, with Brigadier Bill a solid third choice. Once they settled down Roman Abbey bad charge from Rangi Sarto, Puwhero and Brigadier Bill, with the other strung out. Maunga fell at the hencoop in the straight and Roman Abbey followed suit at the first of the double, leaving Puwhero in the lead from Brigadier Bill, Mandarine and Rangi Sarto. Four furlongs from home Brigadier Bill took charge with Rangi Sarto in hot pursuit. Brigadier Bill always held an advantage over Rangi Sarto and won nicely by three lengths. Puwhero was 12 lengths away third and Warncliffe fourth. Then followed Matu, with Nukumai and Mandarine pulling up. Brigadier Bill chanced a few fences and hit the last hencoop hard. Kaitoke Hack Hurdles. For the Kaitoki Hack Hurdles Red Rank was a firm favourite over Cybele, with the winner, Gala Day, sixth choice at a good price. Otairi and Paul Lucerne made the running from Gala Day, Vivo, Grand Lupin, Red Bank and Tiega. Running into the hack stretch Gala Day went up on the inside of Iho leaders and had charge across the top. Once over the last fence Gala Day comfortably withstood a challenge from Red Bank, and won by half a length. Otairi was six lengths back, third, and Tiega fourth. Next came Cybele, who was well back early, Vivo and Novar. The Century Hurdles. Locarno was a little better fancied than Mister Gamp for the Century Hurdles, with Comical also solidly hacked. There was some delay at the start, Aberfcldy and Comical losing a couple of lengths. Beaumont and Airtight were the leaders over the first fence from Glcngariff, who fell at the second fence. Once they had settled down Comical and Abcrfcldv were in charge. Comical was out four lengths from Aberfcldy with a round covered. Mister Gamp was last. Running along the back Aberfcldy and Locarno dropped hack and Mister Gamp moved up fast 011 the outside. After crossing the second to last fence Mister Gamp closed on .Comical, and they were clear of Airtight, Atareria and Locarno. Mister Gamp took charge at the turn, and though he hit the last fence hard he won by four lengths from Comical. Atareria was eight lengths back, third, a head in front of Locarno. Then came Beaumont, with Aberfcldy pulling up. Mister Gamp won really well.

Connolly Handicap. Bisox and Ruanui were the best backed in a good pool on the Connolly Handicap, Paitonu being a well-backed fifth choice. Lady Lintond and Black Mint took charge along the back from Blimp, Tcheka, Goodwill and Ruanui, with Paitonu in the middle of the field. Lady Lintond and Black Mint were still in charge at illc turn, closely pursued by Biimp and Ruanui, with Paitonu coming fast on the outside. Once they straightened up Paitonu smothered the leaders and won by two lengths from Lady Limond, who defeated Black Mint by a length. Ruanui was fourth, followed by Blimp, Cold Bag ancl Goodwill.
