JAYWALKERS NOT WANTED
SAFEGUARDING PEDESTRIANS. OFFICE’S. NEW, SCHEME. Another improvement to minimise danger to pedestrians from fast-mov-ing motor traffic in Victoria Street has been introduced. This is the new guide across the full width of the road just a few feet south of the level railway crossing. Two parallel white lines, about Bft apart, have been painted leading from the bridge approach across to Railway Buildings. Metal studs have been laid along the trail to indicate the route when the white lines fade. Pedestrians are urged to cross the road between the lines, and so avoid Spreading fanwise across Victoria Street at busy periods. "v. Traffic .Inspector Courtney believes the innovation will be of particular benefit to school children travelling between their homes in , Glaudelands and the schools in Ward Street.
