Mr n. W. Simson, of Puahuc, near To Awarnutu, left Auckland by Ihe Aorangl to-day for England, Sir James Gunson left Auckland by the Aorangi to-day on a business visit to the United States. He expects to return at the end of July. Messrs R. Porter, W. Gordon, J. T. Swain, H. S. Hough, J. Ilray, of Auckland, and J. S. Cantor, of Wellington, arc at Grand Central. Mr Reginald Sharland, who was in Hamilton with his wife (Miss Annie Croft) in “The Girl Friend,” was a through passenger from Sydney by the R..M.S. Aorangi which left Auckland to-day for Vancouver. Mr Thomas Dunn, who arrived at Thames in 18G5, two years before the goldfields opened, will celebrate his 99th birthday to-morrow. He is hale and hearty. Mr L. M. Aitkcn, cable editor of The Sun, has been elected president of the Auckland Journalists’ Association. Mr A. F. Grace, the retiring president, has. been elected vicepresident. Messrs. R. Miller, 11. 11. Jolly (Rotorua), 11. W. Don (Christchurch), C. and A. Worthington (Marerctu), J. A. Wilson, W. R. Macken, F. Pope, 11. M. Warner (Auckland), A. E. Shaw (Wellington), and L. Banks (New Plymouth) are at the Hamilton Hotel. Archbishop Gattanco, Papal delegale to Australia and New Zealand, arrived at Auckland from Sydney by the Aorangi yesterday. He is making his lirst visit to New Zealand since 192 G, and while in Auckland will be the guest of Bishop Cleary. The King has approved the appointment of Mr Thomas Shcnton W. Thomas, Colonial Secretary, Gold Coast Colony, to be Governor and Commander-in-Chicf of the Nyasaland protectorate. He will succeed Sir Charles Bowring, whose period of oClce will expire shortly.
