KEEPING EYES YOUTHFUL
A LONDON SPECIALIST'S OPINION. i One beauty specialist in London reports that women are paying special attention to eye treatments because, owing to present millinery fashions, there is no hope of -concealing even tiny wrinkles or the slightest lack of lustre under a kindly drooping brim. “English women have very fine and sensitive skins,” she said, “and unless the tissues are carefully nourished, lines are apt to appear round their eyes and give an appearance of age when they are still in the thirties. Nine out of 10 women instead of spending a few seconds daily in applying skin cream round the eyes to prevent wrinkles, come for treatment after the wrinkles appear. “Home treatment is given in their case but a nourishing cream alone is not sufficient. They are recommended to use a special pack made of a dozen different herbs. This should be steeped in warm water and applied at night —every night if the wrinkles are stubborn, otherwise once or twice a week —for 10 minutes. . Then a special cream is put on round the eyes and on the lids to iron out the wrinkles and give a smooth, waxen appearance. This is left on all night. Tired Eyes Stare. “I notice that ageing, tired eyes, de-' velop a staring habit. Youthful eyes arc continually alert and active, and it is their continual movement that exercises the muscles and keeps them young. Instead of staring unthinkingly into space, women whose eyes lack lustre should try to exercise them by deliberately blinking instead of staring, and by getting into the habit of looking quickly round a room instead of staring dully at one object. Allowing the eye to travel in a circle is definite eye exercise for beauty.. * “Make-up of the eyes has to be done with special care when off-the-brow hats are worn. Ido not recom- | mend eye brow' plucking except in extreme cases. Eyebrows and lashes ought to be brushed regularly to preserve their lustre, and the brows pinched and moulded into l;ne with the fingers. I mould the eyebrows according to the shape of the forehead. Should Imitate the Parislenne. “Women should imitate the Parislenne and, instead of adopting a uniform round arch, accentuate their individuality by following the natural line. For a rounded forehead I make a rounded curve; for a low, straight forehead a flat arch with a slight lift up at the outer corners. “Brow pencils are available in three shades. For darkening the lashes a good tablet indienne is still the best. For deepening the shadows of the lids,'black, brown, or blue powder is used as a rule, interesting blends being made for eyes of unusual colour. Violet eyes require the blue to be blended with a little rouge, mauve being used with blue for green eyes.”
