FOR THE COURTS
BOUQUETS INSTEAD OF FANS. This year’s Courts will be more brilliant than those for many years past, says a London paper. That is because the dresses will be as vividly beautiful as they can be made within the limits set by the official regulations. They will be slightly longer than last year's, and as a consequence the dressmakers have a greater opportunity of achieving really graceful lines. The regulations issued by the Lord Chamberlain stipulate that the train must not stretch more than 18 inches from the heel when the wearer is standing. The arms must not be entirely bare.
The Throe Feathers. As usual, the three feathers must be arranged like the Prince of Wales' plume, the middle one being a little higher than the other two. A Court dressmaker told a reporter that there are no restrictions as to colours of dresses or of gloves. She said: “Debutantes may carry a fan or a bouquet, and it appears that flowers will be ’more generally preferred than fans. Many debutantes are choosing dresses of the most gorgeous materials. Gold and silver brocades, satins, and chiffons are extremely popular.”
Sketches of . Dresses. Coloured sketches of dresses which have been approved by the Queen have been hung, in a room in the Lord Chamberlain’s office for the guidance of debutantes. The Queen alone will receive the curtsies at the Courts, the first two of which will be on May 9 and 10.
