When the cargo of bananas brought j to Lyttelton by the Government motorship Maui Poniare was opened it was found that earlier reports as to their j being in excellent condition were rather optimistic. Tire bananas were in only fair order and a large quantity is unfit for human consumption. Some of the Samoan bananas brought only a shilling and Is Cd a case.
