CREATES GOOD IMPRESSION VALUE OF TOWN PLANNING. PRAISE FOR BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY “ I cannot emphasise too greatly the need lor having beautiful approaches to a town,” remarked Mr. J. \V. Mawson, Director of Town-Plan-ning, in a conversation with a Waikato Times representative yesterday. “ First impressions,” he said, “ are lasting. If one enters a town and finds dirty, ill-kept roads and noxious growth, one gets an impression of untidiness that remains. Avenues of trees and flower plots at the entrances of a town leave a pleasing impression on the mind that is never eradicated.” Mr. Mawson said he could not speak too highly of the wonderful work done by the Beautifying Society. He thought, in fact, the name of the society should be changed. It had really overgrown its functions as a beautifying society and had developed into a Parks Committee. As such it should receive substantial support from the people and the Council. From the aesthetic standpoint Hamilton had made a very good start in townplanning.
