The danger to children especially, in not providing a sufficient safeguard between the edge of the stone bank and Ihe seat at the top of the Alma Street embankment, was stressed by Mr. R. C. Fowler, and he was appointed to wait on the borough engineer with a view to having some safeguard erected at the point. Mr. J. F. Strang asked if it were not possible to have the glass-house at Memorial Park opened to the public on a Sunday afternoon. Mr. W. 11. Paul heartily favoured the suggestion and thought that by members of the society taking it in turns to take charge between certain hours on Sunday, the scheme could be made possible. If was decided to act accordingly. The question of erecting a pergola mi Ihe plot adjacent to Ellis and Burmind's Buildings was referred to the next meeting of the society pending inquiries as to whether or not the Railway Department had any objection to offer. The permanent installation of the Hood lights o’n the cenotaph at a cost of £25 was approved. A vote of condolence with Mr R. Parr in the loss of his brother was passed, members standing. Mr A. Ellioll, beautifying foreman, reported that general maintenance had kept the slaff busy through Ihe month and that trees in the various streets under the society’s control had been attended to. He advocated a thorough reorganisation of the llower beds, some being built 100 far back from the footpaths. d’lie Memorial Park curator, in his report said that his time had been luily occupied in attending to the watering of the trees in the park. General maintenance work had been carried out. He drew the attention of the meeting to the vandalism of certain hooligans in hampering with the fern house by removing some of the smaller ferns.
