HAMILTON Y.M.C.A

OPTIMIST CLUB. The first meeting of the above club was held in (he Y.M.C.A. on Wednesday the Gth. inst., at 5.i5 p.m. There were ‘2O members present and after an enjoyable tea supplied by Mrs W. Clough, Mr R. Braithwate, president of the Club, explained the idea and stated that the main objects of the club vvcre (l) to provide an organisation where young business and professional men of Y.M.C.A. membership may meet for the broadening of their acquaintance and the enjoyment of mutual fellowship; (2) to develop among members and in the community a spirit of well-reasoned optimism and in that spirit to co-operate in the solution of the civic, commercial, social and moral problems of the time; and (3) to uphold the ideal of “Service” and to provide means for the practical application of the ideal to the needs of the community. ' Mr W. B. Williams and Mr R. Cook contributed the musical portion of the programme, both receiving wellmerited applause.
