The Jack Jumper began best, but was soon attended by The Begum, this pair showing the way along the back to Loving Cup, Otangihaku, Prince Val, Unoco, and Master Clements. Three f furlongs from home The Begum and Loving Cup were together in front of The Jack Jumper, and then came Prince Val, Unoco, Otangihaku, and Swift Light. The Begum led into the straight from Loving Cup, Unoco, The Jack Jumper, and Prince Val. The , Begum was not doing her best to win by half a length from Prince Val, who ; finished fast in second place, with 2 Unoco a length away third. When the field l|£d settled down Cynthia N. was the pilot, and showed the way along the back to Prince Lu, /The Thorn, and Palmares, and then at a gap of three lengths came Baby Bun followed by Archecn, Bahama, Red Day and Boomerday. Across the top Prince Lu had charge from Cynthia N., Palmares, The Thorn, and Archecn. Prince Lu and Palmares were on terms in the lead into (he straight from Cynthia N. and Archecn. Archecn finished first, winning by half a length from The ~,.Thorn, who was a length in front of Palmares. Three furlongs from home Siaosi was the pilot from The Lover, Queen Arch, Mosque, Far North, Le Choucas and Schorr. Siaosi showed the way into the straight followed by The Lover, Queen Arch, Far North and Mosque. Queen Arch appeared to have the measure of The Lover about 50yds from home but the latter answered the challenge to win by a head from Queen Arch who was a length in front of Le Choucas. Schorr was fourth with Far North, Siaosi and Mosque in that order. Time, 2.8 2-5.

Arcade was fifth favourite with £3lO 10s and Snow Prince twelfth favourite with £7O 10s. Ited Lion was the first to show up followed by Royal Lover, Arcade, Haviland and Wee Prince. In this order they raced along the back. Three furlongs from home Haviland had charge from Royal Lover, Arcade, Red Lion, Sea Cob, Silver Division and Hiata. Arcade won nicely by a length from Snow Prince who was a length and a-half in front of Hiata. Sea Cob was fourth and then came Whakama, Red Lion, Royal Lover, Haviland, Valwin and Wee Prince. Time, 1.3. Shortly after entering the straight Valwin, Handstitch, Silver Division and Dainty Manners fell, while Kiri was pulled up. None of the riders was seriously injured.
