Latham, has addressed an appeal to the timber workers on behalf of the people of the Commonwealth, to abide by the award and avert unemployment.

An extension of the fight in the timber workers’ strike is feared. No reply lias been received by the Federal Minister for Industry (lion. J. G. Latham) to thc appeal which he has issued. Grave fears are held among trade union officials that their hopes of financing the struggle will not be realised. It is believed thc levy system will not operate successfully, as increasing numbers of thc allied unions arc being thrown out of employment.

Many members of the Timber Workers’ Union have resumed work. Efforts are being made by thc pickets to stem ttie tide hack to work, but I only a few have been induced to stay away.
