SHEEP ON THE MOVE
HEAVY TRANSPORTATIONS. RAILED TO WAIKATO. The past two weeks have seen exceptionally large consignments of sheep handled on the rail between the East Coast districts for the Waikato. In six days, including the weekend, arrangements have been made for the carriage of 8000 shep from Taneatua and Whakatane West to Morrinsville. Four trains will be required to cope with this number.
Yesterday morning 2000 store sheep arrived at Morrinsville from Dannevirke, and 2300 sheep and lambs are expected at Ngaruawahia from Wanganui on Tuesday. In the past fortnight large numbers of stock have been forwarded from Rotorua to Waikato, the total being 53 waggon loads. A further 100 waggons, each carrying between 60 and 80 sheep and lambs,, are expected to arrive at Frankton from the East Coast.
An increase of 14,200 sheep transported by rail in the Auckland district for the week ended January 19 is recorded, compared with the corresponding period last year.
