ADVANCE HAMILTON.
(To the Editor.) gi r> —Hamiltonians are being urged to "boost their town, and in order t» do so to form still another organisation. How many organisations and bodies have w*o had started in Hamilton in recent years with the avowed object of putting the town on the map, and how long have they survived? Started with great llourish, they have gradually dwindled and died. No, what Hamilton requires is not organisations but public-spirited men who will work and .not prate. We have plenty of praters but few workers. There are those who will talk about service until they are red in the face with the exertion of it and their listeners pale with boredom, but put those same praters on a public or semi-public body and assign them duties, and somebody else will have to shoulder the burden. No, sir, let us be honest with ourselves and realise where our great weakness is Until Hamilton is able to produce public-spirited men who wall ungrudgingly give of their labour and exercise their talents for the good of the community the town cannot flourish. The town at present needs men of vigour and vision—men fired with a sense of duty and service, but there are not many such on our municipal horizon. We have'some who are working constantly and unostentatiously for the public good, but they do not pose in the limelight. They are ploughing their furrow and they are ploughing it well. Would that others would follow their example and respond to the call. —I am, etc., VERITY.
