IMPRESSIVE FUNERAL.
LATE MR R- ALEXANDER. big crowd pays tribute. Striking tribute to the esteem in which the late Mr Robert Alexander was held was manifested by the large gathering which attended the funeral yesterday afternoon. Friends f cl *" tives and acquaintances l* lo deceased arrived from all parts, the ears which joined the process on -to the Hamilton East Cemetery at 2.30 num belling over 150. One of the vehicles was loaded with innumerable wreaths and lloral emblems. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. 11. G. Gilbert. The Scriptural reading was taken lrom the Book of Corinthians. Relatives of the late Mr Alexander present included his brother, Mr Thos. Moxander, of Manurewa; his sister, Mrs Harris, of Wellington, and his brothers-in-iaw, Messrs It. Waite, of Cambridge, and G. Collins, of Waikino. Many, nephews and nieces were also there. Others present included Mr J. Gilbert, representing the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, Messrs W. IL Hume and H. S. Hawkins, representing the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company, and Messrs W. J. McKee, president of the Waikato A. and P. Association, R. G. Guy, manager of the Bank of New South Wales, J. Barugh, T. Waite, C. R. B. Speight, H. H. Clark, D. Finlayson, and W. Carr. Many old Waikato identities assembled to witness the last rites. The grave had been prepared with great care, every attention being lavished to make Mr Alexander’s last resting-place a haven of peace and beauty. Credit for the work is due in large measure to Mr D. Allen, sexton at the cemetery.
Mrs Alexander has been the recipient of dozens of messages of sympathy from all parts.
