BATTLE WITH BLACKS
STATE OFFICER ATTACKED. A THREE HOURS* FIGHT. THREE NATIVES SHOT (Australian Press Association.) - ■> (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright^ (Received Jan. 19, 10.16 a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 19. A Port Moresby message states that a State officer was attacked by natives near Mt. Yule, while making a camp. Shots were fired over the heads of the attackers without effect. The officer then ordered his boys to fir© Into the attackers and two natives were killed. A shower of arrows was fired Into the camp, and a large body of natives concentrated for another attack. Attempts to parley, were made by the officer, but arrows were again thrown at him. After a fight ladling three hours, in which another native and one of the defenders were killed, the attackers withdrew.
