ARTESIAN WATER
tapped at tauhei. A VALUABLE DISCOVERY. On Mr James Brown’s Tauhei property, Tauhei, two bores right on the swamp level have been sunk, both ol which are giving wonderful results. The first flow throws the water from a pipe a foot above the ground at the rate of two gallons to the minute; while the second one .will throw it seven feet above the surface at the rate of six gallons to the minute. In both instances the water is of beautiful quality, and from a depth of only 80 feet. Mr Welch of Ngaruawahia, who qrst suggested that the locality was suitable for artesian supply, has had a great deal of experience on the Canterbury Plains. He does not do any divining, but rather trusts to the conformation of the country to base his calculations. It seems curious this is the first discovery of artesian supply in the locality, for it is by no means the first bore to be put down. Tauhei is just a corner of the great Piako swamp, and who knows but what the w'hole area can not be successfully tapped and utilised. A new era has dawned, comments our correspondent, for the development of the swamp in the tapping of artesian water. With the advent of summer the water problem is always with the farmer, although since the coming of the electric pump, the position has been greatly eased. Still, the source of supply has in many cases proved unreliable,, and this splendid discovery will be the means of salvation for many a waterless farm.
