Quite a number of oversized, antique coins have been brought Into the office Recently, says the Southland News, but surely one of the largest was shown to a reporter the other morning. This coin, a five-penny piece, was a copper one, measuring very nearly 1J inches in diameter, and 3-i6th inches in thickness, and weighing 2oz. It was dated 1797, so that it is now in its 132nd year of existence. It will be a very ancient, big and heavy coin that can out-rival this one..

One settler in the Rangiotu district estimates the damage done by the flood last spring to his pastures at between £SOO and £6OO. This advice was contained in a communication received by the Manawatu Drainage Board.

In the last three years the number of taxis in Christchurch has increased by close on 100 per cent.
