'■ li Hot Weather. t Intense heat has been endured during the last few days, especially by the workers in the hayflelds, where ample energy is required. So much wet weather this season has inconvenienced haymakers considerably, and the short spells of dry weather recently have been welcomed by the farmer. The haymaking season this year is a lengthy onp—the commencement was in late November when early crops were stacked, and the same work is still in progress in most districts. The hard work in the hayfleld is lightened considerably nowadays by the use of more modern machinery. Holiday-makers. Holiday-seekers are still enjoying their time at the seaside, where the hot weather we are experiencing now is revelled in. Quite a number of local residents are still absent at the beach, while some who And it impossible to leave their homes early in the new year arc contemplating spending their vacation at the end of January or during February.
