A DISHONEST CLERK

STOLE A POSTAL PACKET. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. In the Maistratc’s Court Chiguc John Logan, a clerk, aged 34, pleaded guilty to the theft of a postal packet containing postal notes to the value of £1 6s, and to removing a used stamp from tiic postal packet with intent to make use of it. The police said accused had been going 'round with a mail contractor when the offences occurred. Accused counsel said Logan accompanied the contractor 'to lill in time, and he felt the sudden temptation. He was desperately in need, being a married man with a family and unemployed. On ’the first charge he was fined £3, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment, and ordered to make restitution. On the second count h 6 was convicted and discharged.
