COMPETITION RESENTED. ATTACK ON TRADE TREATY. LOCAL DAIRYMEN HANDICAPPED, i ißy Telograoh—Press Assn. — Copyright.>! (Australian Press Association.) , (Received January 16, 9.30 a.m.) OTTAWA, January 15. A message from Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island), stales that Mr Giuardian in attacking the trade treaty, said: “Two shipments of New Zealand butter, totalling 5,500,0001 b were recently landed at Halifax. This means that that amount of Canadian butter must look elsewhere for a market. This is what the farmers, dairymen, and the country arc up against. Our competitors enjoy summer weather and excellent pasturage, while our own cattle must be kept in stalls eating their heads off. llow long does Ottawa propose to remain blind to the interests of the great Canadian industry? Thanks to the quality of the product the Prince Edward Island dairymen have had a good year; but undoubtedly they would have done better if thqy had been spared this unwelcome invasion.”
