OBITUARY.

MR W. A. McCUTCHAN. The death has occurred at Rangiriri of Mr William Arthur McCutehan, aged * 76. Mr McCutehan was well known In Taranaki in the early days, and took a prominent part in the development of the province. He was a large landowner and for over <>o years held 5000 acres of stock country in the Kohuratahi district. This property he sold to the Government for subdivison for returned soldier settlement, and with his sons took up a large area in the Glen Murray district. MR J- J- WOODS, The death has occurred of Mr John J. Woods, at iTe Aroha. Mr Woods arrived on the Thames goldfield in the early '7o’s, and became a tributer in the original Alburnia mine. When the Waihi goldfield \Vas opened, in 1882, he became one ■ of the. first staff of the Waihi Goldmining Company, under the management 6f Mr W. 11. Burch, whose death occurred in Auckland last week. The remaining years of his active life w-ere divided between Thames and Waihi. For 'many years Mr Woods, had lived at Te Aroha. Mrs Woods, who i gurvives him, is a daughter of Mr James McEnteer, now the oldest sur- ' vlvlng Thames mine manager, There j'yyg sons Add ft widowed daughter.
