VETERAN VELOCIPEDE

EARLY WAIKATO MACHINE. USED BY COUNTY STAFF. RELEGATED TO SCRAP-HEAP.^ Aged and decrepit, rusty with manj rains and creaking in every limb, a bicycle belonging to the Waikato County Council has at last been ordered to be "scrapped." For years the ‘machine has been used and misused by countless messengers. In the first flush of youth the county velocipede was called upon to traverse rugged roads unblessed by concrete or bitumen. It stood up to the work, well, hut its palmy days were over years ago and to-day is a little more than a scrap of metal, ailing and infirm. “1 believe Mr Insoll brought the bicycle into the Waikato,” said Mr W. Newell, chairman, at the county council meeting yesterday. A voice; It’s on its last legs. It was resolved to purchase a new machine for the use of the office staff.
